But will this ice bar prove to be a big hit?

It was recently announced that by next year Dubai will be home to the world’s tallest building and the city seems to be developing at a rapid pace. Home to a large amount of luxury resorts, the city seems to be catering for the influx of wealthy visitors with various activities.

The newest development in the city is Chillout, an ice bar and restaurant. This offers people the perfect opportunity to cool off in Dubai’s extreme heat. Everything inside the bar is made from ice, and the number of people allowed in at a time is limited to prevent the temperature from rising too much and ruining the perfectly created atmosphere.

The interior of the bar has been sculpted from giant ice blocks and covered with fur. The entry fee is about Dh60 and for this visitors get a free first drink. Reportedly, the restaurant advises patrons not to stay for longer than forty minutes, as it will get too cold. I don’t know if this is the best way to do things, as most people who go out to dinner generally want to stay for longer than forty minutes.

Thus far customer’s reactions to the restaurant have been rather mixed, with one of the main issues being that the temperature inside is just too cold, so it remains to be seen how well it will fare in the long run. A similar bar was opened about a year ago in Cape Town and it has been pretty popular.

Would you want to try this? Have you tried a similar place? I would love to hear about readers’ experiences.

The icebars in London and NZ are overrated. I don't know anyone who has been back after their first novelty visit. What a waste of space...Dubai is so well air conditioned it doesn't need a room full of ice to 'chill out' in...
